The department takes precautions to guard against tax-related identify theft, including working closely with the IRS, representatives of the software industry, tax preparation firms, payroll and tax financial product processors and other state tax administrators on fraud protection activities, while increasing efforts internally to identify potentially fraudulent tax returns.
