If you have a filing requirement, you must file a Montana individual income tax return.

We try to make it as easy as possible for you to file by providing multiple options. You can file using the option best for you.

Electronic Filing Options

You are no longer able to file a Montana Individual Income Tax Return (Form 2 or Form 2EZ) through our TransAction Portal (TAP).

Please use one of the options below for e-filing.

We have several options for e-filing:

Free File Alliance Partners
The Free File Alliance software vendors provide free filing options for qualified taxpayers.
Learn more about the available offers on our Free File Alliance Partners page.
Montana Free File
MontanaFreeFile.org lists tax assistance resources in Montana and will direct you to filing your return for free.
Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit (Form 2EC)
If you are only filing the Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit (Form 2EC) without filing a return, you may file using our TransAction Portal.
Other Software
If you do not qualify for one of our Free File Alliance Partner Offers, you may file using Approved Individual Income Tax Software.
These vendors may charge a fee for filing federal, state, or both.
