Individual Income TaxIf you have a filing requirement, you must file a Montana individual income tax return.
We try to make it as easy as possible for you to file by providing multiple options. You can file using the option best for you.

Electronic Filing Options (E-file)
We have several options for e-filing:
- Free File Alliance Partners
- The Free File Alliance software vendors provide free filing options for qualified taxpayers.

- MTQuickFile
- If you are only filing the Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit (Form 2EC) without filing a return, you may file using our TransAction Portal.
- If you have a filing requirement, you will need to submit a Montana Individual Income Tax Return (Form 2).
- Other Software
- If you do not qualify for one of our Free File Alliance Offers, you may file using Approved Individual Income Tax Software.
- These vendors may charge a fee for filing federal, state, or both.
