The Montana Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable credit aimed at low- and middle-income workers.
You are eligible for this credit for Tax Year 2019 if you:
- Were a Montana resident; and
- Claimed the federal earned income tax credit on your federal income tax return.
See IRS EITC Assistant for more information about the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.
For most people in Montana, the state Earned Income Tax Credit is worth 3 percent of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit claimed.
The credit is refundable, meaning that if it exceeds the total amount of taxes you owe, you will receive the difference.
