Tax Types
Individual Income TaxMontana Individual Income Tax Return
Beginning with Tax Year 2018, we will no longer provide the Montana Income Tax Return Short Form (Form 2EZ).
You may use the Montana Individual Income Tax Return (Form 2) or choose the best filing option for your needs.
Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit
If you have a Montana filing requirement, the Montana Homeowner/Renter Credit is included with the Montana Individual Income Tax Return (Form 2).
If you do not have a Montana filing requirement, you may claim the Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit online using our TransAction Portal (TAP). If you would rather file a paper return, you will need to complete the appropriate sections of the Form 2.
See Montana Elderly Homeowner/Renter Credit Program for more information.
Enrolled Tribal Members
If you have tax-exempt income as an enrolled tribal member, you must also file an Enrolled Tribal Member (Form ETM).
When do I use Form ETM?
You must fill out Form ETM if you have tax-exempt income as an enrolled tribal member and:
- You are an enrolled tribal member of the governing tribe of a reservation,
- You lived and worked on that reservation, and
- You earned income by working on that reservation.
If only part of your income is exempt from Montana income tax, you still need to file the Form ETM along with your Montana Form 2.
