Property Tax Relief and Assistance Programs
Property tax assistance programs are available to eligible Montana property owners.
Property Tax Assistance Program (PTAP)
The Property Tax Assistance Program (PTAP) eases the burden of property taxes for limited- and fixed-income Montanans. In 2023, the Governor and Legislature expanded eligibility by:
- Increasing the market value for eligible homes
- Adjusting income limits to reflect the current housing market
Montana Disabled Veterans Assistance Program (MDV)
The MDVAP reduces property tax rates for disabled veterans (100% service-related disability) or their surviving spouse. In 2023, eligibility was expanded to include:
- Higher market value limits for eligible homes
- Better alignment with the current housing market
Elderly Homeowner/Renter Income Tax Credit
This program provides an income tax credit for eligible seniors who:
- Are Montana residents
- Have limited or fixed income
- Owned, rented, or leased a residence in Montana
Land Value Property Tax Assistance
This program helps residential property owners if the value of their land is disproportionately higher than the value of their home or other buildings.
