Alternative Energy System Credit (Form ENRG-B)

This credit was repealed by the 2021 Montana State Legislature. You may not claim this credit after Tax Year 2021. You may still carry forward any remaining tax credit until the carryforward period expires.

You may use this form to claim your alternative energy system credit.

All individuals living and paying taxes in Montana with qualifying expenses.

Installation costs for an alternative energy system, such as

  • Fuel cells that do not require hydrocarbon fuel
  • Geothermal systems
  • Low-emission wood or biomass
  • Wind
  • Photovoltaics (Solar)
  • Small hydropower plants under 1 megawatt
  • Other recognized nonfossil forms of energy generation Installation costs can include
    • Trenching
    • Well drilling
    • Casing
    • Ground source pumps
    • Ductwork
    • Design and labor
    • Other approved costs

The system must be installed in your primary dwelling.

A nonrefundable tax credit up to $500.

This credit is nonrefundable but may be carried forward up to seven years.
